One week into spring practice, Colorado football coach Dan Hawkins on Monday said, “We’re definitely getting a lot better in a lot of little things, way better.”
Hawkins saw more productivity reviewing films of Saturday’s limited scrimmage than “the entire (previous) spring and fall combined, probably. The energy is good, the confidence is good.”
CU released its first depth chart of the spring with no surprises. The quarterback race lists the three contenders – incumbent Bernard Jackson, redshirt freshman Cody Hawkins and junior college transfer Nick Nelson in alphabetical order, as rotating on the first team.
The only downside of Saturday’s scrimmage was that redshirt freshman wide receiver-holder Scotty McKnight broke his ankle. CU practices again today and Thursday before adjourning for spring break.

Eagles playoff tickets on sale Saturday
The Colorado Eagles announced they will begin selling tickets for the Central Hockey League playoffs Saturday at 10 a.m. The Eagles will have home-ice advantage for the first round, though an opponent has not been decided. Metro State men breeze to tennis victory
The Metro State men’s tennis team defeated Cal Poly Pomona 8-1 at the Kellogg Tennis Complex in Pomona, Calif. No. 1 Sascha Ruckelshausen defeated Joshua Lau 6-0, 6-1 to set the tone for Metro State (8-4).
The Roadrunners women lost 9-0 to Cal Poly.
The Air Force Academy men’s tennis team beat visiting Rhode Island 7-0, led by No. 3 Mike Youn, who beat Dixon Simmons 6-0, 6-0.
