BOISE, Idaho-
The son of Denver Nuggets coach George Karl is scheduled to have surgery next month to remove cancerous lymph nodes.
Boise State University officials have revealed the plans for Coby Karl to undergo surgery, his second operation in 13 months.
Karl had his thyroid removed last March after being diagnosed with papillary carcinoma, a form of treatable cancer. He underwent chemotherapy to try to kill any remaining cancer cells soon after the surgery.
The school said Karl’s cancerous lymph nodes were found in January, but he decided not to tell his teammates until after the end of the season.
Karl is scheduled to play in the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-Star game in Atlanta on March 31, then return to Boise for surgery April 2.
Karl finished his career at number three on Boise State’s career scoring list with 1,698 points.
He led the Broncos with 14.8 points per game this season.
