Tom Diesing, a 17-year-old from Loveland, captured first place in the amateur men’s division of the 2007 World Elk Calling Contest at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s annual conference in Reno, Nev. Cory Walker of Penrose claimed third in the youth division.
Lone Mesa hunt
Applications for permits are available to hunt Lone Mesa State Park during the 2007 big game season. Located about 25 miles north of Dolores, the park encompasses 11,760 acres of prime habitat. Still closed for development, the park will be available to limited access for permitted hunting, with a drawing July 2. Applicants must have a valid license in Unit 711.
