CHEYENNE, Wyo.-

The University of Wyoming scheduled a news conference Friday afternoon amid reports that Fresno State associate head coach Heath Schroyer will be hired as men’s basketball coach at Wyoming.

UW officials wouldn’t comment Thursday night about reports of Schroyer’s hiring, and wouldn’t say Friday morning why the news conference was called.

Both the Casper Star-Tribune and CBS SportsLine.com reported late Thursday on their Web sites that Wyoming would hire Schroyer.

Neither Fresno State coach Steve Cleveland nor athletic director Thomas Boeh would comment when contacted by the Fresno Bee.

Wyoming fired Steve McClain on March 12 after nine seasons in which he compiled a 157-115 record.

UW athletics director Tom Burman hired Schroyer five years ago as head coach at Portland State when Burman was athletics director there. Schroyer left Portland State two seasons ago to take the Fresno State job.
