Air Force’s Eric Ehn was named one of three finalists for the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey’s player of the year. Ehn, a junior center from Dexter, Mich., will be joined by North Dakota sophomore wing Ryan Duncan and Notre Dame senior goalie David Brown at the awards ceremony April 6 during the Frozen Four in St. Louis.
Ehn was the Atlantic Hockey Association player of the year and first service academy player to become a top-10 Hobey Baker finalist, and Air Force reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time. Ehn finished with 64 points, second nationally, in 40 games.
Thunderbirds win opener at peewee tourney
The Colorado Thunderbirds AAA peewee hockey team, a 12-under all-star squad ranked No. 2 in North America, won their opening game at the 2007 USA Hockey national championships Wednesday, 1-0 over the Mid-Fairfield (Conn.) Blues. Tyler Ledford of Colorado Springs got the goal and goalie Kyle Hayton, also of Colorado Springs, produced the shutout against the New England regional champions. The Thunderbirds (53-6-1), champions of the Rocky Mountain region, resume round-robin play this morning against the Chicago Mission. Colorado is 1-0-1 this season against the Mission.
