Raytheon Co. in Aurora will pursue a satellite control network operations and maintenance contract administered by Air Force Space Command at Schriever Air Force Base, the company announced Wednesday.
The Network and Space Operations & Maintenance contract, currently held by Harris Corp., is up for bid and could be worth about $500 million.
“We’re going after the incumbent, which is Harris Corp.,” said Raytheon spokesman Keith Little. “It should be a good thing for the space systems business in Aurora.”
More than 20 people at Raytheon’s Aurora facility have worked to prepare the proposal to be submitted April 5.
The seven-year contract, which is expected to be awarded in November or December, is for a program that operates and maintains the Air Force Satellite Control Network. That involves mission support for Department of Defense space systems at Schriever Air Force Base such as Global Positioning System ground antennas, defense satellite communications system Earth terminals and Milstar Earth terminals.
If Raytheon wins the contract, most of the work would be done in Colorado Springs, where Raytheon already has a large presence.
