The much-anticipated opening of Spinney Mountain Reservoir, the signal rite of Colorado’s angling spring, will be 6:04 a.m. today. Colorado State Parks officials made the announcement Friday, after ice retreated quickly from the impoundment.
The reservoir is only 6 1/2 vertical feet for filling and will be open to both bank and boat anglers, with launches from the north ramp. Only unscented artificial flies and lures are allowed and the creel limit is one trout 20 inches or larger. No limit exists for northern pike.
Nearby Elevenmile Reservoir opened for boating Saturday. A state parks pass is required for entry to both reservoirs. Phone 719-748-3401 for further information.
