Los Angeles – Even without Todd Helton in the lineup and even with Jason Schmidt on the mound, the Rockies still won.

Colorado took a small step forward Monday, trumping the Dodgers 6-3 before a soldout Opening Day crowd to snap a two-game losing streak.

The Rockies were 2-8 in Los Angeles last season. They are better offensively even when Helton gets a rare breather. Jeff Baker tripled home a run in the fourth and Garrett Atkins posted three RBI, including one on a solo home run.

Jeff Francis worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs, for the victory. Schmidt injured his right hamstring but not before getting tagged for four runs in four-plus innings.
