Attending Nebraska’s spring football game was the clincher for Bryce Givens. The junior offensive tackle at Class 5A Mullen committed Tuesday to play football for the Cornhuskers.

“I talked it over with my parents and I’m just really excited about Nebraska football and everything about it,” Givens said.

A 6-foot-6 1/2, 258-pounder, Givens also has a 3.5 grade-point average and is considering engineering or sports management as a major.

All-Centennial League in 2006, Givens helped the Mustangs to a second consecutive 5A runner-up finish.

He is the son of Brian Givens, a former left-handed pitcher for Milwaukee who also played in the minor leagues and Japan for nearly 13 years. The elder Givens prepped at league rival Overland, where he played for Tony Schenbeck, Mullen’s athletic director.
