DENVER-
The Federal Emergency Management Agency approved sending some 50 mobile homes and travel trailers to Colorado to help provide housing to residents in Holly in southeastern Colorado, which was hit by a tornado March 28.
“I applaud the immediate assistance offered by FEMA to assist the Holly community as they work to rebuild their lives after the tornado struck last month,” said Sen. Wayne Allard, R-Colo., who announced FEMA’s approval.
Gov. Bill Ritter requested the trailers from the response to Hurricane Katrina shortly after the tornado swept through town, damaging a third of the town’s homes. Of the 164 damaged houses, 48 of them were destroyed or damaged so badly that they are not currently habitable.
Ritter also signed an executive order that frees up to $1 million in state money for temporary housing, mental health services and infrastructure repairs.
