Denver police said today they have identified a suspect in a Capitol Hill murder that happened two years ago, a few weeks after serial rapist Brent Brents terrorized the neighborhood.
Police named John Lee Carson, 31, a suspect in the 2005 homicide.
Carson currently in prison at the Buena Vista Correctional Complex on a 2006 assault conviction, according to Colorado Department of Corrections records.
Denver police have been working the case ever since 38-year-old Brenda Denton’s body was found in her apartment in the 900 block of Lafayette Street on March 8, 2005.
An autopsy determined Denton was beaten and stabbed to death, said Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman.
“This is an example of how the quest for justice can take time, but it doesn’t deter the spirit of the detectives who have made commitment to the victim,” Police Chief Gerry Whitman said.
“Through this commitment, we hope to have given the family and friends of Ms. Denton some resolution.”
