When David Terrell found himself out of the NFL after the Broncos cut him last summer, it was the first time in his life he didn’t have football. He found a new passion – the presidential campaign of Barack Obama.
Terrell work- ed as a volunteer for the campaign as part of the recruitment development staff in L.A.
“I have so much respect for the man,” Terrell said. “And I want to do what I can to help.”
Terrell will get a chance to get back to his original passion. He was in Denver to take a physical with the Broncos on Wednesday and is expected to sign a contract today.
“I know I can still play on Sundays,” Terrell said. “I’m just happy the Broncos are giving me another chance.”
NFLPA ready to fight
The Broncos’ chances of bringing back punter Todd Sauerbrun hinge on a grievance next week in Boston. The NFL Players Association is fighting a technicality in the original contract Sauerbrun signed with New England in December. If Sauerbrun wins the grievance, he will become a free agent. Sauerbrun has made it known his preference is to play in Denver.
“We believe the right of first refusal is not viable because the procedure required by the collective bargaining agreement was not properly filed,” said NFLPA general counsel Richard Berthel- sen. “The form that is required is supposed to acknowledge to the player that he is giving up his free-agent rights by doing so. It is a conscious effort and in this case that didn’t happen.”
Sauerbrun agreed to a one-year contract with the Broncos on April 3 but it was matched by the Patriots, who had rights of first refusal.
