Jeff Reynolds will be named the new Air Force men’s basketball head coach Tuesday morning at a news conference, a source has told The Denver Post.

The former assistant replaces Jeff Bzdelik, who resigned two weeks ago to take the head coaching job at Colorado.

Early indications had Reynolds going to CU to continue his association with Bzdelik after coming to the academy on Bzdelik’s first staff two years ago. Reynolds was present at Bzdelik’s first practice at CU, but hadn’t officially joined the staff.

Before coming to the Air Force Academy, Reynolds had coaching stops at James Madison, Randolph-Macon College, North Carolina Wesleyan, Winthrop College, UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Greensboro, Wingate College and Tulane. He was the head coach at Wingate College and North Carolina Wesleyan.

Reynolds, 50, provides Air Force the advantage of a coach who knows the Mountain West Conference. He also is familiar with the basic offensive system that the Falcons have used over the past seven seasons. He is Air Force’s seventh coach, and the fourth in five years.

With the loss of six seniors, including four starters, Reynolds faces a rebuilding job for the 2007-08 season.

Air Force assistant coaches Larry Mangino and A.J. Kuhle also had applied for the head-coaching job.
