Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter gave his “New Energy Economy” agenda a jolt on Monday.
The governor signed two “Greening of State Government” executive orders to reduce energy consumption in state buildings and state-owned vehicles.
He also announced that the the Office of Energy Management and Conservation would be renamed the Governor’s Energy Office, and that he was hiring a full-time climate-change adviser, Heidi VanGenderen, a senior associate at the University of Colorado. She will start May 1.
“There are other groups organized around looking at climate change and making recommendations about things we should do,” Ritter said. “I want someone who is specifically tasked to do nothing but that, and who is speaking directly to me about it.”
