Getting your player ready...

Anyone who has ever fumbled through a rooftop cargo box at night – drooling on the penlight in their mouth, clinging to the roof rack, wondering where the bike pump is hiding – has wondered why those things don’t have lights. The new SolLight LidLight ($40) sheds light where it hasn’t been before and even better, it’s solar powered. The LidLight installs on any rooftop box and easily qualifies under the “What Took Them So Long?” category.

Among the features: A tilt-switch automatically turns on the light when the box lid is opened. Its five LED lights are powered by a battery that recharges through a small solar panel on the outside of the box, and the battery holds a three-hour charge.
