DU women’s golfers expand Sun Belt lead

The University of Denver women’s golf team increased its lead to 17 strokes after shooting a second- round 298 at the Sun Belt Conference Championships at the Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday.

The Pioneers were led by Stephanie Sherlock, who leads with an even-par 144 after shooting a 1-under 71 in the second round. Denver’s Emily Hoeper is in third place, while Dawn Shockley is in fifth place.

The Mesa State women’s golf team finished second with a 629, four strokes behind tournament winner California State Monterey Bay, at the RMAC Championships at Redlands Mesa in Grand Junction. Western State (632) finished third. Mesa State’s Amanda Preston finished fourth overall, with a 152.

The Colorado women’s golf team shot a 324 in the second round of the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas. Heading into the final round, the Buffalos are in ninth place. Individually, Lindsay Caljouw and Hannah Hoch are tied for 13th at 155, two shots out of the top five.

Pioneers men fifth in conference golf tourney

The DU men’s golf team shot a second-round score of 294 at the Sun Belt Conference Championships at Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, Fla. The Pioneers head into today’s final round in fifth place with a 591 total, trailing leader New Orleans by nine strokes. Chris Gilman and Jeff Koprivetz lead the Pioneers, tied for 10th at 146.

Colorado-Colorado Springs won the Northwest Regional Head to Head with a three-round score of 883, 12 shots ahead of runner-up CSU-Pueblo. Colorado Mines’ Mark Vallee beat UCCS’s Eric Winder by one shot, winning the tournament with a 218.
