DENVER-

Uncertainty about global refinery capacity will put pressure on U.S. motor fuel prices this summer, Guy Caruso, administrator of the U.S. Energy Information Administration, said Tuesday.

Rising gasoline demand, slightly lower imports and lower gas inventories also influenced the EIA’s summer fuel outlook.

The EIA—the statistical arm of the U.S. Energy Department—expects average gasoline prices of $2.81 a gallon this summer, although prices could vary widely in different U.S. states,

Caruso said U.S. gasoline inventories are about 7 million barrels below normal going into the summer driving season.
