Temporary housing trailers initially intended for use in the Gulf Coast region after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita began arriving in Holly on Thursday.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency provided 30 surplus travel trailers and 20 refurbished mobile homes to the town, devastated last month by a tornado.
The state of Colorado paid $145,000 to transport the units 750 miles from Hope, Ark.
A tornado hit Holly in late March, destroying 35 homes and damaging 32 others. The twister injured 11 people and killed Rosemary Rosales Puga, 29.
Officials had not yet determined which residents will receive the trailers, said Marsha Willhite, town administrator.
“Some people’s houses did not get completely destroyed but it’s not safe to live there,” she said.
The town rallied after the tornado and worked to clear the debris immediately after the storm. The mobile homes will help in the getting the town back to normal, Willhite said.
