HOOPER, Colo.-
Gov. Bill Ritter and Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar were expected to attend a groundbreaking Monday at the site of a new solar energy plant in the San Luis Valley.
The $60 million plant is being built by Minneapolis-based Xcel Energy.
The facility, expected to be one of the largest in the United States, is scheduled to begin operating next year.
It is designed to produce enough energy to power 1,500 homes.
Currently, just under two percent of the electricity sold in Colorado comes from renewable sources.
