New York — The Rockies bullpen shuffle continued Tuesday as set-up man Latroy Hawkins went on the disabled list with a strained right arm.
Left-hander Tom Martin will replace him.
Hawkins admitted that the injury has nagged him since the second week of the season.
After being unable to throw his slider in his most recent outing, he could no longer avoid the disabled list.
“It’s really frustrating,” Hawkins said. “I felt good the first week but after that I felt (badly). I have been getting massages, but it wasn’t getting any better.”
While Hawkins would not use it as an excuse, the injury helps explain his ineffectiveness.
He lost his setup role during the second week of the season, after a handful of bad outings.
Martin’s groin injury has healed and he said his time in Colorado Springs on his rehab assignment helped him regain his arm slot.
“I feel good.” Martin said.
