Castle Rock, Colo. – They would meet in the early mornings for coffee, kisses and even showered together at the courthouse, records show.

According to a complaint filed Friday, Douglas County deputy district attorney Laurie Steinman and Douglas County District Magistrate Grafton Biddle, who are no longer in their jobs, had an affair that lasted for months in 2006.

The complaint, filed with the Attorney Regulation Counsel of the Colorado Supreme Court, also stated that Steinman argued two cases in front of Biddle without acknowledging the conflict of interest.

Biddle, 57, resigned his position on Dec. 18 after rumors began circulating that he was having a romantic relationship with Steinman, 29, who was fired on Dec. 22 after she admitted having the affair. The affair came to light when Biddle’s fourth wife sent a letter about him having an affair.

Both admit to having sex in the judge’s chambers during the July 4th holiday. The complaint also states that “on a number of occasions Judge Biddle would sneak into the women’s shower facilities in the courthouse early in the morning” to shower with Steinman.

Biddle does not have a listed number and a message left for Steinman was not immediately returned.

A disciplinary hearing has yet to be scheduled before the state Supreme Court Disciplinary Judge William Lucero. Both face punishment of up to disbarment.
