Rapids defender Brandon Prideaux will have his right knee scoped this week after damaging his meniscus Sunday during the team’s 3-1 loss to FC Dallas. Coach Fernando Clavijo said Tuesday he expects Prideaux to be out two to four weeks.
Dan Gargan and Chris Wingert are the obvious replacements on the right side for the Rapids’ game Monday against Real Salt Lake, or, Clavijo said, Ugo Ihemelu could be moved outside and Pablo Mastroeni brought back from midfield into central defense.
Reynolds stocks AFA coaching staff
Air Force men’s basketball coach Jeff Reynolds has hired Dave Pilipovich and 1997 academy graduate Rob Pryor as assistants. Pryor coached as an AFA assistant under Jeff Bzdelik two seasons ago before working last season as an assistant at Siena, which went 20-12. Pilipovich has been coaching for 20 years, including a stint as an assistant at Michigan the past two years.
Oklahoma State wins Big 12 golf title
Oklahoma State shot a final-round, 7-over-par 287 to claim the Big 12 Conference men’s golf championship with a 26-over 866 total. The Cowboys were seven strokes better than runner-up Texas A&M.
Colorado finished 11th at 922 in the tournament at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. CU’s Michael Baird moved up 11 spots with a final-round 70 to finish eighth at 220. Oklahoma State’s Pablo Martin took medalist honors with a 1-over 211.
DU coach receives Sun Belt award
The University of Denver’s Danny Westerman was named Sun Belt Conference men’s tennis coach of the year. The Pioneers finished second at the Sun Belt championships last week and ended the season 13-7.
AFL salutes Crush’s Floyd
Colorado Crush defensive back Rashad Floyd was named Arena Football League defensive player of the week, marking the second week in a row a Crush player received the honor. Floyd returned two interceptions for touchdowns, sparking Colorado’s come-from-behind, 63-53 victory over Las Vegas last Friday.
