GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.-
The athletic director at Grand Junction High School accused of Internet luring was allowed Wednesday to have a tracking device removed, and was told he would be able to travel out of town to visit relatives.
Donald John “Johnnie” Walker, 48, was formally charged in Mesa County District Court with Internet luring of a child, and enticement of a child, both felonies.
He surrendered to authorities last week.
An arrest warrant affidavit said an informant posed as a 14-year-old girl on the Internet, and kept copies of online messages from Walker in which he discussed sexual acts.
District Judge Thomas Deister said he considered Walker’s lack of a prior record, and the fact that he is already barred from the high school while on administrative leave, in relaxing conditions of Walker’s bond.
“I’m taking a chance on you, and you’d better not violate this,” Deister said.
Walker was scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing June 25.
