How the text services work

Free text-messaging services allow callers to use their cellphone to send a text message with the name of a business, city and state to a special code, and receive a return message containing the listing: (text-message rates from your carrier still apply)

Send a text message to TELLM (83556) from any cellphone with a business name, city, state or ZIP code and Tellme will send back a listing and a map.

You can also send a text message to GOOGLE (466453) for listings, maps and driving directions.

Cingular/AT&T users can text to YP411 (97411) with a business name or category, along with city/state or ZIP code to receive a directory listing. Yellowpages.com then returns text-message results with up to three listings. Consumers click the phone number included in the results to initiate a call to a business or click the link to see more details of the business including a map or driving directions.

Cingular/AT&T and Sprint cellphone users can also try Tellme’s newest beta service – Tellme By Mobile – which lets callers speak a desired listing into their phone and receive a text message and map of the listing. The service is available only for certain phone models. Go to the Tellme website, www.tellme.com, for more information.
