BOULDER, Colo.-
Need to pay for parking? Forty parking spots at the University of Colorado now allow drivers to phone it in.
As part of a 90-day trial through June, coin-operated parking meters at certain spots have been replaced by machines that accept payments and print out a receipt for display on a vehicle’s dashboard.
The machines accept credit cards, but for users who have set up an account through Verrus Mobile Technologies at , payments also can be phoned in and billed to a credit or debit card.
Instead of rushing out to feed an expired meter, a driver can call to add parking time. The driver gets a text message when the meter is about to run out.
If the trial is successful, as many as 50 machines could appear on campus, said Casey Jones, the university’s parking and transportation director.
