Pueblo firefighters extinguished a fire at the State Fairgrounds early this morning that destroyed a small building owned by the Colorado Lottery.
“The building was vacant, without any terminals or computers in it,” said assistant fire chief William Nemick. “They used it for public relations during the State Fair.”
Nemick said it appeared the fire was caused by roofers using a torch over the weekend. He said the fire smoldered for quite awhile, then flamed up sometime after midnight.
It took fire crews about 45 minutes to extinguish the flames. Firefighters never entered the building because of weakness in the roof, he said.
Nemick estimated the damage at $200,000. No one was injured, he said.
