The Avalanche has signed forward Codey Burki to a three-year, entry-level contract.
A Winnipeg, Manitoba, native, Burki, 19, was the third selection by the Avalanche in the 2006 NHL entry draft. He has played in the Western Hockey League for the Brandon Wheat Kings for the past four seasons.
He had a career-high 36 goals and 49 assists to lead the Wheat Kings last season, finishing fifth in the league in scoring with 85 points. He also had career highs in penalty minutes (83) and plus/minus (+6), and also led the Wheat Kings in playoff scoring with six goals and five assists in 11 postseason games. In his time in Brandon, Burki had 181 points in 263 games.
He was one of 38 players named to Team Canada’s World Junior selection camp in December 2006.
Burki will be in Denver for the Avalanche Development Camp beginning July 7 and also will take part in the Avalanche’s training camp in September.
