PUEBLO, Colo.-

Casey Wetzig defeated Mattison Sperry 6-0, 6-0 Saturday to win the No. 1 singles title Saturday at the state 4A girls tennis championships, leading Cheyenne Mountain to its 13th state girls tennis title in school history.

Cheyenne Mountain, which advanced six of seven brackets into the finals, clinched the team title Friday with 66 points at the City Park Tennis Complex.

“Dave Adams is just an awesome coach and he really worked hard so that we could achieve this state championship, and it feels great,” said Cheyenne’s No. 3 singles player Alana Humpal.

It was Cheyenne’s first state girls tennis title since 2000. The Indians finished second the past five years in a row—four times to Kent Denver, and last year to Mullen.

Cheyenne Mountain finished with 83 points, followed by Greeley West with 49 and Niwot at 35.

Joining Wetzig with individual state titles were Mary Russell (No. 2 singles), Humpal (No. 3 singles), Meha Semwal and Kristina Barber (No. 1 doubles), and Alison Seiler and Kristen Boe (No. 3 doubles).

Lexi Graham and Christine Kato of Greeley West won the No. 2 doubles title, and Erin McNary and Jenna Cavalli of Broomfield won in No. 4 doubles.
