Seven Colorado Mammoth players will compete in the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships, beginning Monday in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Gavin Prout, Gee Nash, John Gallant, Dan Carey and Nenad Gajic will represent Canada, which is coached by Colorado resident Gary Gait, the Canadian-born Mammoth coach. Mammoth general manager Steve Govett will serve in the same capacity for Canada.
Mammoth defenders Tom Ethington and Jamie Hanford will compete for the United States, which opens play against Australia.
Canada won the inaugural event in 2003.
With only one practice and one shootaround before its opener against Ireland, Gait will stress the basics.
“You have to keep it simple because we haven’t been together,” Gait said. “The good thing is lots of our players are coming off the NLL season. They are sharp and ready.”
Former Mammoth goaltender Erik Miller and transition player Scott Stapleford, a Denver resident, also will play for the U.S., which won the bronze in 2003.
