A jab at Paige
Woody Paige strikes again. You folks should consider taking away his keyboard after any boxing match. It’s evident he can’t write an unbiased column about the sport.
Boxing has its problems, and the proliferation of sanctioning bodies is No. 1 on the list, but to condemn the sport for that would be like banning baseball because some players have taken steroids, or eradicating football because players seem to have problems staying within the law.
Paige isn’t content to make the legitimate point boxing has problems. He goes further. He dismisses fighters from other countries because, well, they’re from other countries and their names are “funny.”
Colorado, to its shame, was the last state to legislate for a boxing commission, a basic necessity in any civilized place. I don’t recall Paige writing anything about it back then, indicating he doesn’t care about the safety of boxers.
I fail to see what Paige brings to your readers, except unfunny, forced puns and cheap alliteration.
Please don’t let the man write about boxing. He tarnishes a great tradition of writing by good writers about the sport.

Goodbye, boxing
Once again Woody’s wisdom shines through in his recent column about the demise of boxing.
Without an Ali-esque hero and organized leadership (not crime), boxing’s best days are long gone.
If fans want to see a good fight, they can go to a hockey game or to the ultimate fighting events. Boxing not only is down for the count, it’s flat on its back.
