The Denver Post is accepting nominees for the Dick Connor A.C.E. (Adversity Conquered through Excellence) Award, presented annually to a high school senior who has overcome a handicap, hardship or tragedy to excel in sports. The winner must have exhibited courage, resolve, leadership and citizenship. Connor, a former Denver Post columnist, died in 1992 after a distinguished career.

The 2007 winner will be honored at a luncheon next month with Post personnel, his or her family and Connor’s widow, Mary Kay, and will receive a $2,000 scholarship from The Post.
Football
Athletics and Beyond will host its second annual clinic and sports career options workshop Saturday and Sunday at East High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The featured coach is Broncos cornerback, Eric Hill, a graduate of Montbello and Colorado State. Former prep standouts Devin Aguilar (Mullen) and Drew Davis (Montbello) will be on hand, as will coaches from Thomas Jefferson, Montbello, Eaglecrest and Mullen, and youth coaches from Arapahoe, Aurora and programs that participate in Denver PAL. Six Colorado seniors for next season have been nominated for the annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Among 400 nationally, Nolan Brewster, Mullen, S; Curtis Cunningham, Columbine, DE; Jack Elway, Cherry Creek, QB; Bryce Givens, Mullen, T; Jon Major, Ponderosa, LB; and Ben Tedford, Columbine, DL; are in the pool. The game will be Jan. 5 at San Antonio’s Alamodome.
Rugby
Regis and East will play for the state championship on Saturday at 8 p.m., at Shea Stadium in Highlands Ranch.
