One of the best things about a trip to Italy is the food, and that goes double for a foray into the Tuscan region. That makes “The Food Lover’s Guide to Florence” ($14.95, Ten Speed Press) especially helpful because author Emily Wise Miller lists not only her favorite backstreet spots in the city, but also restaurants, markets and shops throughout the region. Small enough to be tucked into a backpack or purse, the book is broken down by neighborhood; each restaurant offers basic information (sadly not websites, though), including days and hours of operation, an idea of price and thorough descriptions. A few photos are interspersed with festival, market and other insider tips, and a glossary of food terms and regional cuisine guide offer further insight.
