AURORA, Colo.-
A stock car racetrack owner says Commerce City is no longer under consideration as a site for a new 75,000-seat track, but nearby Aurora still is.
International Speedway Corp., which owns the Daytona International Speedway in Florida and a dozen other tracks, told Commerce City officials in a letter this week that their city is no longer in contention, the Aurora Sentinel & Daily Sun reported Thursday.
The letter said Aurora is still in the running, but it wasn’t clear how many other sites were as well, the newspaper said.
ISC said in February that its subsidiary, Rocky Mountain Speedway Corp., was considering at least two sites in Adams County east of Denver for a track. The company has said the track may require $150 million in public money to build.
ISC’s Daytona track is home of NASCAR’s Daytona 500. Its other holdings include an 82,000-seat facility in Kansas City, Kan., and a 76,000-seat facility in Phoenix.
