WINDSOR, Colo.-
Mullen High School’s Maggie Boberg shook off the elements to shoot an 8-over par 79 to claim top honors at the Colorado Class 4A Golf Tournament held at the Par-73, 5,921-yard Highland Meadows Golf Course Tuesday.
Swirling winds and constant rain made playing conditions difficult for the field of 72.
Boberg finished with a two-day total of 154. It earned her a two-shot victory over runner-up Elizabeth Kresock of Colorado Academy. Windsor’s Erica Schlomer finished third at 163.
“It was cold. It was really cold,” Boberg said. “I didn’t even want to look at the scoreboard, but I did.”
Boberg, who will attend Princeton University in the fall, said her victory came down to the tricky Par 4, 359-yard No. 6 hole. The hole includes a large canyon-like drop-off midway to the green.
“I watched the other two, Kresock and Schlomer, hit into the canyon and was relieved when I carried it,” Boberg said. “That was the difference today.”
Boberg finished with a par on the hole. She won despite having three bogeys on the back nine.
Kresock and Colorado Academy won the team competition. Colorado Academy won by a 522-535 margin over second place Windsor.
Mullen was third at 539.
