Colorado Colfax Marathon runner-up Steve Krebs said the course Sunday felt a little longer to him than the regulation 26.2 miles. He wasn’t the only one.

Responding to runner feedback, race officials have decided to have the course remeasured and recertified. They believe the course may have been about a half-mile longer than it should have been because of a mistake made in City Park.

“The certifiers are coming back in Saturday,” race director Mike Collins said today. “We will remeasure it, we will recalculate, and if it’s (wrong), they will receive revised times based on their (true) pace per mile. That will be their certified official results.”

The Boston Marathon has agreed to accept qualifying times adjusted for any discrepancy found in the remeasurement. For example: A man in the 45 to 49 age group who needs to run 3 hours and 30 minutes (an 8-minute pace) to qualify for Boston would get an extra 4 minutes if the course was, in fact, a half-mile too long.

“We will have all this done and everybody informed by next Tuesday or Wednesday,” Collins said.
