Remember the Mall Crawl? Back in the ’80s, Denverites by the hundreds would show up to cruise one downtown bar after another for charity. It was canceled for various reasons, most notably for promoting drinking.

It’s back – well, kinda.

The Camo Crawl for Cancer is June 23, and it encourages you to pony up $25 for the cause, dress in camo and have drink specials at seven LoDo bars starting at 3 p.m. at White House Lounge, then on to Giggling Grizzly, Scruffy Murphy’s Irish Pub, Jackson’s, Public House, The Dugout and Code 3. Check it out at myspace.com/camocrawl.

For a classier crawl, sign up for the Pat “Gabby Gourmet” Miller’s Cherry Creek Wandering Dinner. On Aug. 14, the Gabster will lead 40 people around the ‘hood, enjoying various food courses and wine at Sketch, Piatti, Campo, Euro and Cucina Colore. It’s $75 – and you go home with gifts! Call Susan Klos at Piatti at 321-1919.

It sold out so fast last summer, Gabby is doing a second tour on Aug. 21, hitting Hapa, North, Ocean, Chinook and Elway’s. Call Jennifer Wiard at Elway’s at 303-399-5353.

Gabby suggested the tours start at my condo for cocktails, but I have to wait until the crime-scene tape comes down.

Coming out

Some people come out calmly; others shout it out.

Denver restaurateur Marco Colantonio (Tamayo, Steak au Poivre, Euro, Luxe, Lime) gave it a big shout-out last week when he sent out an e-blast hyping his new website, gay5280.com.

It’s a “new nightlife and entertainment website targeting Denver’s GLBT community,” says his letter. And does it ever. “We have no intention of being politically correct,” it proclaims – and a quick tour confirms that. The site starts with a pic of Colantonio with the cutline “I was born the day I came out!” Features in the site include the Gay Gourmet and some gossipy items about fights in gay bars.

“It’s a tough, long road,” Colantonio tells me. “But it is what it is. It may be a little bit edgy, but edgy attracts attention.”

One person who isn’t so excited about the site is Dan Brogan, publisher of 5280 Magazine. “We’re concerned, and we’ve contacted our lawyers,” he says. “We have always strenuously protected the 5280 trademark. But we’ve worked with Marco before. We’ll give him a shout and see if we can work something out.”

Home movies

Kevin Costner, starring in Friday’s “Mr. Brooks,” says his next film is “Swing Vote,” a Capra-esque political comedy. “It’s no great shakes, but I’m financing it myself,” he told World Entertainment News. “I’ve mortgaged my property in Aspen, and I’ll make this movie. They wanted somebody else to do it, and how they wanted to do it didn’t make any sense to me, so I’ll just do it myself.”
