Former Columbine High School standout Sara Anundsen and partner Jenna Long of Fremont, Calif., claimed the University of North Carolina’s first tennis title Monday, winning the NCAA women’s doubles final over William and Mary’s Megan Moulton-Levy and Katarina Zoricic at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Anundsen and Long, the second seeds, rallied in the final two sets, downing Moulton-Levy and Zoricic, the top seeds, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.
“We got blown out in the first set, and we weren’t sure what hit us,” Long said. “They are a great team, but we didn’t give up, and we played much better in the second and third sets.”
Somdev Devvarman of Virginia and Audra Cohen of Miami, two former national runners-up, won the singles titles. Devvarman beat top-seeded John Isner of Georgia 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) for the men’s title. Cohen beat Southern California’s Lindsey Nelson, 7-5, 6-2.
In the men’s doubles championship, Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom of Middle Tennessee defeated Illinois’ Kevin Anderson and Ryan Rowe 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4).
