BOULDER, Colo.-

About 50,000 people were participating in the 29th annual Bolder Boulder 10-kilometer road race on Monday.

Nick Hirsch of Gunnison won the citizens’ race through the streets of Boulder and Paige Higgins of Littleton was the first woman to cross the finish line.

Participants run the course in 72 waves in advance of the women and men’s professional races.

Sara Slattery is the defending women’s professional champion but she’s not even the favorite in a packed field. That honor goes to Ethiopian Teyba Erkesso.

The men’s race was wide open with American Alan Culpepper among the hopefuls.
