Getting your player ready...

The absence of Manny Corpas and concern about his ability to move off the mound conspired to land pitcher Josh Fogg on the disabled list today.

Fogg, who strained his groin last Tuesday, pitched an effective side session in San Francisco, but there’s still some reservations about his ability to field his position. Corpas went to Panama for a relative’s funeral and is not expected to be available until Wednesday night’s game. He will not be put on the bereavement list because it does not involve an immediate family member.

As a result, triple-A closer Ryan Speier will take Fogg’s spot just for today’s game to give the Rockies some bullpen insurance. He will them be farmed out Tuesday to make room for Rodrigo Lopez’s return to the rotation. Lopez was 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in his first three starts before experiencing elbow soreness.

If all goes well, Fogg said he hopes to rejoin the rotation June 7 against Houston.

It was one of those things where I thought this Friday was a realistic goal, but giving me the extra four or five days isn’t going to hurt,” Fogg said. “There was still a question mark in the trainer’s mind and the team’s mind. And I can’t go out there and put the team in a bad position when we might already be short on relievers.”
