Three Northern Colorado baseball players were named to the Division I all-Independent team.
Receiving the most votes for the Bears was second baseman Adam Symons, who earned first-team honors after batting .321 this season. He finished with 42 RBIs, eight home runs and 24 extra-base hits.
Named to the second team were catcher John Ray and center fielder Zach Brockman. Ray, a senior, led UNC with a .351 batting average and is the school’s career leader with 380 total bases. Brockman stole a team-high six bases, while batting .311 with 23 RBIs.
Dakota Ridge product on all-region team
Former Dakota Ridge High School baseball player Chad Jacobsen was named to the ABCA Division II South Atlantic all-region first team, as well as the National College Baseball Writers Association first team.
Jacobsen, a junior at the University of South Carolina-Aiken, broke two school records with his 25 doubles and 75 RBIs this season. He also ranked in the top five in the Peach Belt Conference in slugging percentage (.606), home runs (11), total bases (143) and runs scored (65).

Grand Canyon University of Phoenix will join the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference as an associate member in wrestling, beginning this fall.
Western State promoted assistant coach Jen Michel to head cross country coach. Michel, a Wheat Ridge product and former All-American and NCAA track champion at Western State, takes over for longtime coach Duane Vandenbusche, who resigned this month.
