There’s something special brewing in Denver’s underground lo-fi acoustic scene. And while this is about Dang Head, a.k.a. Jamie Smith, check out the other artists he’s linked with at shows and on his MySpace page (myspace.com/danghead), because they’re all equally worth knowing.
When Dang Head played the Old Curtis’ Tear In My Beer night on May 24, the room was silent save for the attentive applause that followed each composition. Smith’s honest voice and love for words are unique. The music is straightforward, but the sentiment’s hardly easy to nail down.
Listen to a song like “Basket,” which he sang at the Old Curtis with a lulling drawl, and you’re quickly let into a world of love, humor and something that resembles regret. |Ricardo Baca
