Country megastar Garth Brooks may be stopping by the Grizzly Rose in Denver on Thursday night, fans of the multi-platinum-selling artist say. And they’re making a strong case.
Social media and Reddit threads have connected dots they say prove Brooks is playing a secret, 7:30 p.m. show at the country music venue north of Denver, where Brooks last performed in 1991. First, the band that’s scheduled to play — Yukon Jack — is an alias that Brooks used when playing a 1993 surprise concert in New Mexico.
Second, Brooks — who just happens to be from Yukon, Oklahoma — is already scheduled to be in town this weekend for four shows at Ball Arena, Friday, Sept. 4-Sunday, Sept. 6, and has reportedly said he would love to play the Grizzly Rose again.
A publicist for the artist declined to comment on the rumors, and representatives of the Grizzly Rose did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment.
Still, the for the show on the Grizzly Rose’s website hint at a huge star: tickets for the Thursday, Sept. 3, concert are only available at the door (most of the time they include online sales); doors open at 6 p.m., and “no one will be permitted to line up on Grizzly Rose property prior to 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 3,” according to the website.
That’s a crowd-control tactic familiar to small clubs, but a ticket price is not listed for the show, which is unusual for any promoter or venue. “Immediate entry” at the time of ticket purchase is also required at the time of ticket purchase,” the venue said, and “no re-entry will be permitted at any time during the event.”
Garth also mentions The Grizzly Rose in the 1995 tune “The Old Stuff,” which he’s been opening his retro tour, “Blame It All on My Roots,” with, . There’s also a strict no-photo/no-video policy, which is consistent with Brooks’ own arena concerts (it’s unclear how they would enforce that at a small venue).
Brooks last set a concert-attendance record when he played Empower Field at Mile High in 2019, welcoming 84,500 people, according to promoters.
