FORT COLLINS, Colo.-

A truck driver was buried and resuscitated by bystanders Wednesday after he fell into a trailer full of malted barley at the New Belgium Brewery malt facility.

The trucker’s condition was not immediately known, Poudre Fire Authority spokesman Capt. Patrick Love said. His name was not released.

A message left after business hours at the brewery was not immediately returned.

Love said the accident happened at about 9 a.m. as the driver was off-loading the grain at the facility. Love said witnesses heard the trucker yell and apparently rescued him through the bottom of the trailer, where the grain was passing through to an underground storage area.

It was unclear what the driver was doing when he fell in.

Fire crews found the truck driver lying on a pile of grain while witnesses performed CPR on him.

So-called dry bulk goods trailers can weigh up to 25 tons when filled with grain.

New Belgium is best known for its beers Fat Tire and Sunshine Wheat.
