Nate Gold hit two home runs as the Oklahoma RedHawks of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League routed the visiting Colorado Springs Sky Sox 16-2 on Sunday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
Gold, a first baseman, went 5-for-5 with two doubles, two homers and seven RBIs. The RedHawks got at least one hit from eight players and had 20 as a team. Third baseman Desi Relaford went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.
Sky Sox starter Marc Kaiser (3-3) gave up 10 hits, eight earned runs and two home runs in 4 2/3 innings. Colorado Springs used four pitchers in relief, including third baseman Tim Olson. The teams meet again today at 11 a.m.
Parker player wins match in Paris
Parker’s Kellen Damico, seeded 10th, won a first-round tennis match in the junior boys singles division at the French Open in Paris on Sunday. Damico defeated Roy Bruggeling of the Netherlands 6-3, 6-3. Damico will face unseeded Kevin Botti of France in today’s second round.
State runners earn steeplechase wins
Greeley’s Spencer Carter and Crested Butte’s Emma Coburn swept the 2,000-meter steeplechase in the boys and girls divisions, respectively, late Saturday at the Great Southwest Classic in Albuquerque. Carter finished in 6 minutes, 23.08 seconds. Coburn posted a time of 7:15.43.
