Big mouth in right place
Colorful CBC broadcaster Don Cherry comes to NBC, if only for tonight’s Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals, appearing with ex-NHL star Brett Hull as a between-periods analyst. An NBC spokeswoman cautiously calls Cherry’s segment “an experiment.” “A lot of bars across Canada go silent when he comes on TV,” Hull said. “It’s going to be an honor to be on with Don.” North of the border, Cherry has been called bigger than Oprah and sexier than The Rolling Stones. Though he knows it alienated his Canadian viewers, Cherry picked Anaheim to win the Cup before the playoffs began. Why? “They get in more fights than anyone in the league,” he said.
Bashin’ after crashin’
Danica Patrick might be small, but she’s not about to back down – on the track or off. Patrick, one of two women in Sunday’s ABC Supply/A.J. Foyt 225 at the Milwaukee Mile, had an on-track collision with the car driven by Dan Wheldon and then made a beeline for the Englishman in the pits after coming back to finish eighth. The postrace conversation between Patrick and Wheldon was pretty one-sided, with Patrick doing most of the talking and eventually giving her rival a light push as she walked away. As for the postrace confrontation, Wheldon said: “She’s just feisty. There’s a lot of pressure on her. … She’s just being Danica. She’ll be fine when she calms down.”
Oh, those lovey-dovey Cubbies
Sounds like Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano and catcher Michael Barrett kissed and made up after last week’s fight that started in the dugout and continued in the clubhouse. “It’s all my fault,” Zambrano said. Barrett, who needed six stitches, said he thinks of Zambrano as a brother and the scuffle resulted because the batterymates are “so close.” Neither player would reveal exactly what happened. “Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” Zambrano said.
