Dog owners in Jefferson County and parts of Adams County will be required beginning July 1 to license their animals.

Licensing will be new in Arvada, Golden, Lakewood, Westminster and Wheat Ridge, although it has been required in unincorporated Jefferson County since 1994.

On July 15, the annual fees are expected to increase from $7 to $15 for neutered dogs and from $25 to $30 for unaltered dogs under a proposed agreement between the county and cities.

Some licensing details are still being worked out, although forms will be available at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Table Mountain Animal Center and many veterinary offices and pet stores.
