A memorial service for former Colorado State basketball coach Jim Williams will be held June 16 in Fort Collins at 11:30 a.m. at the South College Fieldhouse gymnasium on the CSU campus.
Williams, who died May 31 at age 92, won 352 games in 26 seasons with Colorado A&M and Colorado State. A funeral service for him was held in Logan, Utah, on Monday.
Williams’ family and CSU set up a scholarship in honor of the coach. Donations can be made to the Jim “J.J.” Williams Memorial Scholarship Endowment through the CSU Foundation at P.O. Box 1870, Fort Collins, 80522.
Parker youth wins in French Open tennis
Kellen Damico of Parker and partner Jonathan Eysseric of France defeated France’s Julien Obry and Adrien Puget 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2) in the first round Tuesday of the junior boys doubles division at the French Open in Paris. Damico and Eysseric, the second seeds, will face Russia’s Danila Arsenov and Mateusz Kecki of the United States in today’s second round.
Damico, as a 10th seed in the singles division, is also scheduled to face sixth-seed Brydan Klein of Australia in today’s third round.

Mallory Duran of Windsor High School was selected as the Gatorade Colorado softball player of the year. The junior center fielder, the Denver Post player of the year, hit .553 this season and homered in a 6-4 championship game victory over Berthoud in Class 4A.
