Warm air rising off the ground this afternoon could turn the skies violent in time for rush hour this evening, with a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 9 p.m.
The National Weather Service warns that storm cells will be passing by the metro area from northwest to southeast this afternoon. But not all areas will be hit with rain and strong winds. Scattered thunderstorms will continue to move across central portions of Arapahoe, Adams and far northern Weld counties with brief heavy rain, small hail, and lightning and gusty winds to 40 mph. Rainfall amounts will be up to a quarter of an inch in 30 minutes with the stronger storms
Wednesday’s temperatures will reach into the 80s again, until a cold front arrives late Wednesday night or early Thursday.
Some of the higher mountain communities could receive a dusting of snow Wednesday night.
Thursday will be cooler, in the 60s, with a chance of storms. Temperatures will climb back into the 70s on Friday through the weekend.
