The University of Colorado’s first three football games this season will be televised, the team announced.

The Buffaloes will take on Colorado State in Denver on Sept. 1 and the game will air on FSN. Game time for the CU-CSU game has not been decided.

CU will then travel to face host Arizona State at 8:15 p.m. Sept. 8, a game airing on FSN. On Sept. 15, CU will play Florida State in Boulder at 8 p.m., on ESPN. And Miami (Ohio) will visit Boulder for a game not on the television schedule on Sept. 22 at 1:30 p.m.

CU season tickets remain on sale, and single-game tickets will go on sale later this summer.

Esparza successfully defends U.S. boxing title

Marlen Esparza, a 17-year-old recent graduate of Pasadena High School in Houston, successfully defended her 106-pound women’s division national title at the U.S. Boxing Championships in Colorado Springs. Esparza earned a 23-22 decision over Melissa McMurrow of San Francisco in the title bout.

Also, Mike Wilson, a two-time national champion from Central Point, Ore., defeated William Moore of Fort Carson 25-16 at 201-plus pounds in the men’s semifinal round. Wilson will box in his fourth consecutive national championship bout, this time against Michael Hunter of Las Vegas, a 17-12 semifinal winner over Lenroy Thompson of Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Pioneers release 2007-08 hockey schedule

The University of Denver hockey team released its 2007-08 schedule and it includes 14 games, out of 36 total, against teams that qualified for the 2007 NCAA Tournament. The Pioneers will face WCHA rival and Frozen Four finalist North Dakota and travel to play a nonconference set with CCHA champion Notre Dame on Oct. 18-19.

Parker’s Kellen Damico, the 10th seed, continued his run through the junior boys singles division at the French Open in Paris, defeating sixth-seeded Brydan Klein of Australia 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 in the third round. Damico will face Brazil’s Fernando Romboli, the fourth seed, in today’s quarterfinals.
