Henry Cejudo, a two-time Colorado prep champion from Coronado High School in Colorado Springs, will be the youngest wrestler on the U.S. world team going to Turkey after he earned a spot at age 20 by defeating Matt Azevedo in the 121-pound freestyle division at the U.S. Wrestling trials in Las Vegas on Sunday.
Cejudo has a spot on the team that will compete at the world team trials in September.
“Yes, I am the future,” Cejudo said. “I’m young, hungry and willing to work hard to win medals.”
Crush returning to AFL playoffs
The Colorado Crush and two other teams clinched Arena Football League playoff berths during the past weekend. The Crush was idle, but gained a postseason bid for the fourth consecutive year when San Jose defeated Utah 70-49 on Saturday night. Tampa Bay and Orlando clinched playoff berths with victories Sunday.
The Crush (8-6) currently is the fourth seed in the American Conference with two games remaining.

Outlaws midfielder expected back soon
X-rays on the shoulder and neck area of Denver Outlaws midfielder Josh Sims showed no damage, according to Outlaws general manager Brian Reese. Sims was injured in the second quarter of the Outlaws’ 18-15 Major League Lacrosse victory Saturday over the Los Angeles Riptide. The Princeton graduate is expected to play this week against Rochester at Invesco Field at Mile High.

Local gymnast takes all-around title
Guillermo Alvarez of Denver finished atop the all-around rankings at the U.S. men’s qualifier at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs on Saturday. The two-day meet was a qualifier for the Visa Championships, the men’s gymnastics national championship meet, in August in San Jose, Calif.
